Best summer walks around the UK Coast
#1 South West Coast Path, West Country
This stunning 300 mile section of The South West Coast Path offers, even the most adventurous of walkers, an experience to remember. This landscape has lots variety so expect to see sandy beaches, estuaries, busy harbours, secret coves, steep valleys, intense headland, and of course lots of gentle stretches too.
Although 300 miles long, this path also offers short and accessible walks around Cornwall. These walks vary between an hour round trip and a full day, but the variety of these paths means they are perfect to make your own route based around your time and needs.
#2 Seven Sisters, East Sussex
If you are yet to see the white-cliffs of the South Coast, Seven Sisters Country Park is a great place to start your next adventure. Starting at Seven Sisters means you can pick to either walk towards Beachy Head or the Birling Gap.
On a bright day this walk offers stunning views across the Channel, plus spot lots of wildlife around the cliffs. However, be aware of the drops!
#3 Llŷn Peninsula, Gwynedd
The stunning Wales Coast Path provides some wonderful walking opportunities which include 100 miles of untouched coastlines, hillsides full of Welsh history and volcanic peaks. Along the coast is the Llŷn Peninsula which offers lots of walks for different abilities.
The Peninsula is situated behind Snowdonia so you know any direction you choose to walk will offer spectacular views. Check out which stretches of the West Coast Path are best suited for you as some vary in terrain and incline, and start walking!
#4 Sandwood Bay, Sutherland
Sandwood Bay is known as one of the most beautiful and untouched beaches in the UK. Surrounded by sand dunes, rocky cliffs and sea stacks it is the perfect landscape for a long walk along the beach. The terrain is very level across the length of the bay, with just a few streams to cross on your way.
Despite being known as one of the best beaches in the UK the bay never seems particularly busy because the entire length of the bay is 13km. However, there are no public transport routes which are close to the bay so your own method of transportation will be needed.
#5 Wells Beach, North Norfolk
Wells Beach on the north Norfolk coast stretches for 16km which means you can walk for however long you choose to! The sand dune and salt marches attract lots of bird life throughout the year so it is great for wildlife enthusiasts. But it is advised to keep to the coastal route and take a Coastline bus back to your start point to avoid steering away from the flat terrain – plus the views are exceptionally good along the coast.
There are two public car parks in the town of Wells-next-the-sea and a large car park at the main entrance to Wells Beach. If you are planning to head there on a summers bank holiday weekend, it is advised to go early to ensure a car parking space close to the beach.
These are just 5 of many wonderful coastline walks to visit across the UK, but there are many more to discover! So make the most out of the glorious British summer and get walking!
